Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, zoom, or other assistive technology.

What we aim for

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. So far we have:

• made every page and form usable with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline;
• added a "Skip to content" link;
• labelled every form field, and made errors point to the field that needs fixing;
• checked that text has enough contrast against its background;
• given images and icons text descriptions, or hidden purely decorative ones from screen readers;
• made pages work when zoomed to 200% and on small phone screens;
• turned off animations for people who ask their device for reduced motion.

Known limits

We test with automated tools and by hand, but we may have missed something. Links to other websites (like the source of a statistic) go to pages we don't control.
